One of the main focus areas concerns the development of adaptive and self-tuning maneuvering models for surface vessels. Accurate maneuvering models are a prerequisite for accurate vessel and engine performance models. Existing commercial services rely on undisclosed maneuvering models, whose accuracy is not documented, and interpretation requires highly-skilled performance engineers. New concepts like digital twin, machine learning and AI are not common in the maritime. No commercial solutions exist that combine latest research in vessel performance to offer an open standard for ship crew to make decisions directly and at the same time prepare for future autonomous operations. To develop adaptive maneuvering models that self-tunes with data from actual performance is novel however and will increase accuracy of the digital twin models required for improved the autonomous vessel operation. This project covers the value chain from the development stage of new technology for autonomous maritime operations and adaptation of known technology to the test and demonstration phase.
