The overall objective of the research into fault tolerant operation is to develop methods and tools for the design of supervisory control on the tactical level of decision making in safety critical highly automated industrial plants.
The topics comprise:
- Intelligent decision support in alarm management, fault diagnosis and reactive planning of control actions
- Integration of automated control functions on the operational levels with the tactical levels
- Application of agent and knowledge-based software technologies
Multilevel flow modeling
The research focuses on applying concepts from artificial intelligence and cognitive science in automation design and cognitive systems engineering of the human machine system. Particular focus is on multilevel flow modeling (MFM). MFM is a method for functional modeling of complex system and has been developed by the group. MFM is applied within energy systems and chemical engineering.
